Welcome to the LAKE
POWELL ‘BIG FISH’ CONTEST (L.P.B.F.C.), where sportsmen are given the opportunity to
showcase spectacular catches of Striped Bass and any of Lake Powell’s numerous
other game fish.. There are two separate Contest Divisions; an
Adult Division (Age 16+) and a Youth Division (to age 16)... Any youngster is eligible for entry
and recognition under the Youth Division up to the age of Sixteen.
One administrative note: This site is built and optimized for today's modern WIDESCREEN (16:9 and 17:10 ratio specifically) monitors. If you have an older 4:3 (TV and more square shaped monitors) you will have to either scroll up/down, and left/right, or use the ctrl - scroll wheel trick to re-size this site. This is due to a number of modules and formats we have used to build this site. There are no plans to change this.
Here’s how the
Contest works;
Striped Bass catches
are recognized and showcased monthly, with the largest Striper acknowledged as
the month’s winning fish.
Largemouth Bass,
Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Catfish, Crappie, Bluegill or any other game fish
caught in the waters of Lake Powell may be submitted anytime throughout the
year, with the individual best of any species recognized at year’s end with a grand prize.
ALL entries in the contest will be added to the galleries as quickly as time allows, and the winners each month recognized on this front page, and on the front page of WaynesWords!
The 2012 L.P.B.F.C. is proudly brought to you by a number of generous private citizens, as well as several corporate sponsors. This site, this contest, and the prizes at the end of the year would not be possible without their support, and we thank them deeply for their contributions to help keep America outdoors and fishing. More on our sponsors can be found by clicking here or on the 'about us' tab to the left.
This contest is all about getting people onto the most beautiful lake in the world (in our opinions...) and getting them catching LOTS of trophy fish in one of the greatest and well managed fisheries in the west, if not the world!
Monthly first place winners in both Striper divisions will receive
a Tee-Shirt screen printed with their name and the weight of the winning fish,
and their pictures and stories will receive top billing on several
websites! 2nd and 3rd place youth finishers in the striper division will
each receive a small prize from one of our corporate sponsors. Major
prizes at the end of the year for top places in all species are still
being negotiated with vendors, but will be quite spectacular!
Please take a few moments to read about our sponsors and staff, peruse the photo gallery and other areas of our site, then review the rules and entry page for all information vital on how to enter a trophy catch!
And please, above all... REMEMBER TO TAKE A KID FISHING!!!!!
APRIL Contest Leaders:
(there are NO MAY, 2012 entries yet this month...)
Ray Young - 15 Lbs, 4 Oz!!!
Slow trolling whole anchovy (JP Rig) at 30 feet
in 40 feet of water. Caught smaller striper (8 pounds) at dusk. Lost a huge fish that broke the line about
dark. Hooked this 15-pound fish about an
hour after dark. Fishing in Navajo Canyon where main channel bottom depth is 40
